Has your computer been making any funny, strange or out of the ordinary sounds lately? Ever wondered what it could be? Could it  be a bogey man whose decided to call your computer home, or that pesky little mouse you could never get your hands on… hmmm probably not. Chances are its probably either a noisy power supply or CPU fan, cross your fingers and hope its not your hard-drive - dare I say hard drive failure / crash!

If you are unlucky enough  to have lost any data you’ll know first hand the heart ache, down time and anger such situations can cause.

Now imagine loosing a whole hard drive due to malfunction, data corruption, user format or most common of all – user deletion! It’s true! Believe or not but most data loss occurs at the hands of the data owner.

Just imagine losing all your precious holiday snapshots, business accounts, favourite recipes, internet bookmarks and worst of all not being able to access facebook till you get it fixed, assuming it’s fixable.

You’ve probably heard numerous people telling you to back up your data, you should listen to them, I’d bet they’ve lost data before, which wasn’t backed up!.

It’s the age old saying ‘it’ll never happen to me’.

If you are one of the unfortunate ones and trust me there are many, don’t start pulling your hair out just yet. If the hard drive still spins up (good sign), using specific data recovery software you may be able to recover your data, using a procedure called hard disk recovery. Hard disk recovery is a slow process but bet you won’t complain if all your data gets recovered will you?

When your hard drive doesn’t spin up at all, it probably means something has physically gone wrong, yip - it’s definitely time to get worried! Specially equipped data recovery laboratories could be a god send, but this hard disk recovery comes with a very unattractive hefty price tag, is your data really worth it?

In today’s digital world the potential for digital data stored on removable media is very prone to becoming corrupted and ultimately unusable. Fortunately various flavours of data recovery software has been developed to recover data from the likes of flash cards, flash drives, CD’s as well as DVD’s.

As always ‘prevention is always better than a cure’. Numerous data backup software solutions are available, find one that suits your needs and stick with it!

Bottom line, back up your data!
